Launched in 1869, Golden Hours Magazine For Boys and Girls (not to be confused with Golden Hours for Sunday Reading, for adults) was designed for boys and girls. According to the Internet Archive, “Published by Hitchcock and Walden, this magazine contains stories, lessons, music, and many lithographs. These magazines were meant to spread good morals to a younger generation of readers in the late 19th century.”
At some point, perhaps in 1878, the magazine added a section for the youngest readers. Farny added to his wide resume by illustrating the “Owldom” header for that section. As best as I can find, his header image first appears in the January 1878 issue:

In that same January issue on page 45, Farny also added an image with the caption “Elsie and William”:

It’s possible there are other Farny images that appear in other editions of the magazine, but I’ve been unable to locate them.
