Cerealine were uncooked mashed grits that, before baked and used as cereal, were used in the brewing industry. At some point in the 1880s they were toasted (and malted?) and were sold as a breakfast cereal. To boosts sales, Henry Farny was enlisted to create a seventeen page brochure combining the benefits of consuming Cerealine with the pastoral ideals of farming, Indians, and nature.
I can only guess that Farny benefited financially or in some other way from the relationship, because his portfolio doesn’t contain much in the way of blatant corporate advertising creation, so I’m surprised this appealed to Farny. My best guess is the he got paid very well.
