A November 07, 1881, article from The Cincinnati Enquirer informed readers that Farny had illustrated, “profusely”, illustrations for a free pamphlet from the Cincinnati, New Orleans, and Texas Railroad Company called Winter Cities in a Summer Land. The booklet edge just over one-hundred pages. Curiously, those much of the art has Farny’s detailed style, non of the works contain any of his signatures, though there are a few other works that do have signatures, including at least one illustration by Thomas Moran.

The 1881 version is difficult to locate, which explains my torn copy that I picked up from eBay. Below is the original cover and page one. The cover doesn’t strike me as something that screams “Farny’s style”, but the image on the first page, as well as others, very well could be Farny’s.

Subsequently, in 1882, the Cincinnati, New Orleans, and Texas Railroad Company released an expanded version that totaled one-hundred and forty-eight pages along with a slightly different cover and more images.
