In 1873, Dr. William Venable again published a book that included Farny images, this time six-signed ones. Titled The School Stage, the scanned book shows only six images with Farny’s signatures. As always, more of them could be his, but the signatures may have been lost due to 1) poor block etching, 2) poor book printing, or 3) poor scanning.
To me, the most interesting image is the Chinese Damsel. One the right side, inside a box, is a more Chinese-styled version of his symbol signature accompanied by “del”. I have wondered whether working with this Chinese image and studying some Asian art prior to illustrating this image might have inspired him to make his symbol signature.
