The December 09, 1882, issue of St. Nicholas Magazine featured Coasting on Lake Winnipeg, a tale from Edmund A. Struthers, a Canadian whose authoring history is little known. This was one of several stories Farny authored for St. Nicholas Magazine, launched by Scribner’s in 1873 to focus on the youth market.
Note that two of the images appear thirteen years later in a 1895 book The Native Races of North America. The image labeled The Indian Legend of the Aurora below that appears on page 104 is relabeled War Dance in the Sky in the Native Races book. The image labeled The Camp at Night that appears on page 107 becomes Camping Out in the Snow in the North-west in the Native Races book.
