1893-10: The Dance of the Dahomans

Though an art jurist and participant at the 1893 Chicago World’s fair, Farny still had time to explore the grounds. Among his favorite places to visit was a Bedouin camp, where he went daily to sit cross legged with a Bedouin Sheik and drank coffee with him. How many photos he took and sketches he made are lost to history, but at least one of them was published in the October 11, 1893, issue of Harper’s Weekly, page 965. It was titled The Columbian Exposition–The Dance of the Dahomans in the Midway Plaisance:
