1880: McGuffey’s Sixth Eclectic Reader

In 1875, Farny began supplying images for the McGuffey’s readers. The McGuffey readers were well known by then, having been teaching kids to read since the 1830s. Learn more information on this early history on the McGuffey’s First Eclectic Reader post.

Below are the Farny illustrations that appear in the McGuffey’s Sixth Eclectic Reader. The captions include page numbers and the illustration names that appear in the Table of Contents.

Overall, there are many less images in the fifth and sixth readers books than the lower-numbered readers of this series: Farny only has three images in this book. Unlike the other readers, this has a copyright of 1880, rather than 1879.
