There may still be, somewhere out there, a baseball-bat painted by Farny for actor-comedian John A. Mackay. According to a March 24, 1891, article in The Cincinnati Enquirer, the bat was acquired by Farny, the Honorable Theodore Hallam, and others, then decorated by Farny. The bat was presented to Mackay at one of his shows sometime in the 1880s as a result of defending a lady insulted at the Grand Opera House. Harry Lee was the insulter and, when Mackay learned of the insult, he hunted down Lee at B. & B.’s saloon and delivered a drubbing to him. Unfortunately, I have no pics or description of the bat, nor could I find an exact date for the event.
